Test: Testing of car, scooter, bike sharing systems

The average cost of a car is tens of thousands of forints per month for domestic car owners, if someone does not need a car every day, the above cost can be saved. Car sharing systems offer solutions to this.

Likewise, cycling can become increasingly popular without its own bike, at least in the capital, where, according to the latest research by the Hungarian Cycling Club , more than 70% of the population is cycling if not every day.

In the last few years, sharing-economy services have been used in Budapest. These are self-service, non-traditional rental systems that primarily help to make shorter distances fast and contribute to more sustainable urban transport.

First of all, in 2015, MOL-Bubi community cycling system was launched, followed by Donkey Republic's orange bicycles , GreenGo and MOL Limo cars, and Blinkee.City electric scooters, all of which can be rented with a mobile application.

More than 5 service providers from the Conscious Buyers' Association have been tested on several aspects. They wanted to know how clear and transparent the information was, how easily, quickly registered, used the vehicle and paid.

Two wheels - the greenest solution

For public transport, public transport and cycling are the greenest solutions. The MOL Bubi and Donkey Republic bike system offers the latter.

In the test of bike systems , Donkey Republic became the first, behind MOL Bubi. Both providers have lost a lot of points by not being very user-friendly on the website: MOL Bubin because there are a lot of tickets and leasing systems that are lucky in itself, but easy to lose in the disorder of abundance; At Donkey, not all info is available in English, only in English.

The strength of the Donkey is that it is very easy to register, rent and pay, and the bikes are easy to roll with them. Its disadvantage is that it only has 350 bikes, so it doesn't cover the city enough, and in case of a complaint, we have to contact the Danish customer service in English.

The advantage of Bubi is the huge bike park (1526 bringa), which is available in almost any part of the city, with the disadvantage that it is difficult to navigate between many tickets, passes and other combinations. Although the daily ticket is much cheaper than the competitor's, it is not a very user-friendly solution to make a one-time rental deposit of HUF 25,000 on our account, and it is released only after several days or weeks. Customer service lost a point because we had to wait nearly two weeks before we received an email reply.

Carsharing - Who Is Winning?

Although urban car transport is not an environmentally friendly solution, carsharing nevertheless assumes a more rational use of the car, as it does not need its own car, which may be depreciated in front of the house most of the year. At the same time, it is assumed that just because it requires a little more effort than "just" to snap into your own car, you think twice that you can't get to that goal with a greener way. by public transport, by bike.

The result was very tight. In the case of motor vehicles , GreenGo ranked first, MolLimo in second place, and BlinkeeCity third. In all three, it is easy to see the website and the information on the app, it was a good experience to use cars and scooters, they were easy to start, they were clean. If you want to rent not only once, there is a discount package and a rental - except Blinkeet. Their customer service also responds quickly if you have any questions.

From an environmental point of view, Greengo and BlinkeeCity are clearly leading, as they only have electric vehicles, so there is no pollutant emissions directly during transport.

Another advantage of GreenGo is that you can deposit your deposit, and that you have made it easy to see any extra costs. However, he lost a lot of points that we had to wait for 4 days with the weekend, so we could use the car after registration, so there is still room for improvement in this area.

The strength of MOL Limo is that we can use the car within a few minutes of registration and had a larger car park at the time of the test (400 cars) than GreenGo. (Greengo is currently expanding its fleet; 300 cars are now available instead of 200 from November 2018.) The disadvantage of MOL Limo is that we have to pay a registration fee of HUF 5,900, which can not be paid off, and only the long-term grubbing up of the GTC is possible. we'll know after.

With BlinkeeCity , payment is very easy and fast, and the cost is immediately deducted from our card and we already receive the notification email with the attached invoice. Its main drawback is that it does not yet have a rental system and only has 80 scooters - both are probably due to the relatively new service.
