Protective masks are bought, sewn by rural municipalities, they help those in need

Several municipalities are trying to help those in need by setting up relief funds, temporarily releasing rent for rented flats, providing durable food, cleaning products and making it easier to apply for social benefits.

In Zalaegerszeg, the municipality ordered 60,000 washable, reusable medical mouth masks for HUF 27 million to provide care for all city residents, the shipment will arrive on schedule in the coming weeks, Mayor Zoltán Balaicz said on the community page on Monday.

In Nagykanizsa, the delivery of protective masks made by the city-owned Kanizsa Rehab Nonprofit Kft. For health care institutions, public institutions, city companies, social care institutions, kindergartens, nurseries, bakery manufacturers and suppliers was started. Mayor László Balogh also announced that he had also agreed with a local business owner that he expected to acquire 50,000 health masks with a 95% filtering capacity by the beginning of next week, which they intend to deliver to households in Nagykanizsa.

On Monday, the mayor of Nagykanizsa made parking free in the entire area of the city for the duration of the emergency by amending the local decree.

The local government of Szeged decided on Monday to close the Cserepes line market. In the coming days, public transport will also be further reduced, but the service will be maintained so that workers in grocery stores, pharmacies and essential public services can continue to get to work.

From April 1, shops, companies and restaurants operating in municipally owned real estate that close by the end of March will be exempt from paying the rent, just as no public space use fee will have to be paid for the closing terraces of restaurants, confectioneries and cafes.

In Szekszárd, Mayor Rezső Ács decided to facilitate the use of social benefits under the authority of the General Assembly, the local government informed MTI.

One of the elements of the amendment to the regulation, which came into force on Monday, is that the municipality provides durable food, cleaning and disinfecting products to about 700 people who received extraordinary municipal support last year, without having to apply separately. The city gives the same to those in need who have been in crisis, lost their jobs, or have been forced to take unpaid leave due to an emergency.

Until the emergency is lifted, it is not necessary to renew the housing allowance application, to re-apply for the municipal drug subsidy.

In Tatabánya, the local government currently estimates the costs of antiviral protection at HUF 400 million, of which HUF 90 million is the release of rent in rental apartments in the second quarter and HUF 200 million is the feeding and care of quarantined, elderly and needy people, said Ilsi Szoszcsárna Posztovics.

In Siófok, the municipality compiled unit packages consisting of disinfectants and toiletries, as well as leaflets for the homeless due to the coronavirus epidemic. The municipality’s website wrote: the city could not achieve the quarantine of the homeless shelter, there are still many homeless people walking the streets.

In the town on the shores of Lake Balaton, the hotel offered by its owner to those undergoing home quarantine is almost full, and the municipality has opened Galérius Vendégház as a voluntary quarantine accommodation. Non-sick Siófok residents returning from abroad can move into the building temporarily, who do not want to infect their family members during their mandatory quarantine.

In Balatongyörök, the Kastély hotel, a former government resort, which has been empty for six years, will be transformed into a quarantine hotel.

In Balassagyarmat, the local government agreed with the Palóc Farkasok football youth sports association to use the property of the Kövi Pál Sports Center for health purposes in the city. The disinfection site of the ambulance service supplying the hospital will be built there, and from April the blood donation station will also establish a permanent blood donation site in the building.

Attila Péterffy, the mayor of Pécs, decided to set up a "coronavirus relief fund". Companies and individuals are expected to make offers to support the municipal program for the care of the elderly and the purchase of protective equipment.

Ferenc Szalay, the mayor of Szolnok, announced on his Facebook page that the city will help the hospitals of the county seat to protect against the coronavirus epidemic with HUF 10 million. From this amount, protective clothing, masks, gloves, disinfectants, ozonation devices are purchased. At the same time, the mayor asked for donations for the foundations of the Hetényi and MÁV hospitals.

He said the city government is helping to produce masks and protective clothing. Jelmez-Art Kft., For example, sewed a thousand masks, which are purchased and distributed by the municipality. Later, several sewing shops will join to make the masks.

The local government of Gyöngyös is buying a diagnostic machine that can also detect the new coronavirus, the mayor of the city announced at his press conference.

György Hiesz announced that the negotiations on the purchase of the modern equipment have been completed, the machine worth about HUF 25 million will arrive within weeks. He indicated that he would contact the settlement leaders of the area in order to share the costs of the purchase and the operating fee, while the Gyöngyös municipality would make the new device available to healthcare upon its arrival.
