The Veranda Cukiműhely Budapest's golden apple cake became Budapest's dessert this year. The giandujás-apple candy placed on a Linzer sheet can be tasted for the first time at the Sweet Days Budapest chocolate and sweets festival from Friday to Sunday in front of St. Stephen's Basilica.

Hungarian chocolate production has been at the forefront of the world in the last decade, this is confirmed by numerous international awards - said Csaba Rebrus, the president of Csésze and the main organizer of Sweet Days, at the press conference of the Hungarian Chocolate and Confectionery Association (Csésze) in Budapest on Tuesday.

However, as he added, the coronavirus epidemic caused enormous damage to Hungarian confectioners and confectionery manufacturers, and now the sharp rise in the price of raw materials is a serious problem for them. The most important goal of the Sweet Days is therefore, in part, to draw attention to these craft workshops, he noted.

Csaba Rebrus said that the winning cake can traditionally be tasted for the first time on Sweet Days.

An important aspect of the competition is that the sweets are made from ingredients that can be purchased by anyone and are available all year round. The two most important ingredients can always be determined by the previous winner: this year it was apples and hazelnuts. The judging took place anonymously, and the judges only got to know the winner after the scores were totaled.
Edina Farkas, from the Veranda Cukiműhely in Budapest, said that the Budapest golden apple cake is a mousse cube placed on a linzer base. This is partially covered with hazelnuts rolled in gianduja milk chocolate. An apple filling is hidden inside, with lemon curd and orange-coffee cream, and all this is surrounded by gianduja milk chocolate mousse.
