An app to help parents treat their children with fever

Under the leadership of Henrik Szőke, a pediatrician and assistant professor at the University of Pécs, he has developed a modern application based on a decision support algorithm that helps parents decide whether or not to give a child an antipyretic in case of fever .

A new smartphone app called LázBarát makes it easier for parents to decide what to do if their child has a fever, which is also important because according to the medical protocol adopted today, it is only necessary to alleviate fever in exceptional situations.

There are three to four conditions when needed when the heat center in the nervous system is damaged. This may be due to, for example, an increase in cerebral pressure, which is rare.

There are also some rare heart conditions when it is necessary to keep the temperature low. Sometimes a condition can arise where the body's energetic household, metabolism, circulation cannot withstand the extra work that comes with a high, prolonged fever.

It is known that the relationship between fever and the immune system is very close. Today, more than sixty such linked biological mechanisms are known. Experience has shown that when fever is reduced medically, in most cases the immune system is also partially suppressed.

With FeverFriend, you can classify a patient’s febrile condition into a low, medium, and high-risk type with high confidence, which is important because parents often confuse the height of the fever with the severity of the cause of the fever. A mild fever can also indicate a serious illness, such as the onset of a meningitis, and a simple viral infection can be accompanied by a very high fever of 40 degrees.

The application takes into account how many days the child has a fever, how old he is , how high his weight is, how high his breathing and heart rate are, what his skin condition is when he last drank, and then suggests home remedies (fluid intake, lukewarm bath, compress) - can be read in the Facebook post of the National Ambulance Service.
